“And the servants of the Most Merciful are those who walk upon the earth easily, and when the ignorant address them [harshly], they say [words of] peace”

The Noble Qur’an 25:63

The Quebec City experienced the terrorist attack when the  two gunmen opened a fire Sunday night  on  the Quebec Islamic Cultural Centre and killed 6 people in men’s section in the Quebec’s mosque, 5 out of 17 injured are in critical conditions.  The police arrested  as terror suspects  Mohamed el Khadir and Alexandre Bissonnette, both the students of the Université Laval. According to the information, one of them is Moroccan and based on the global hysteria about Islamic terrorism, Canada just go its own punch in the face as a liberal country, opened for everyone and pretty much politically correct state.

That is happening at the same moment when the American president Donald Trump is suspending for a while the immigration and circulation of people  from the list of countries dangerous for the American national security. The European spirit hasn’t been healed yet because of the series of terror attack in last years but there are still those who claim that borders must be opened for people and they must be helped no matter from where they come from and with what purpose. Shortly, the global response on migration crisis and the problem of refugees is not united and it seems that every country has its own doubts and solutions. In the long period of time, this will cause the bigger obstacles and the growth of terrorism from inside to outside.

Islamophobia.jpg

The new type of terrorism is mutated, like a virus. You do not want to risk and to open your siciety to the army of potential jihadists smugled among poor people ,  but who will guarantee you that the sleeping cells within your system are not the ones you should really be worried about. Not only them, what about those who are infected by the fanaticism and they live for generations on your ground? Who will control them? The national security has never been so weak and fragile as it is now because it is limited with human rights observations and common sense. There is no way to destroy all apples just because one is sick. It costs us too much, it costs us our humanity.

islamaphobia.jpg

But, there is also one other problem which seems getting more and more loud and aggressive, especially among ordinary people who digest delivered information without thinking. Muslims. Islam. Qur’an.  The trilogy of chaos for Non-Muslim world that is not capable to make divisions between violence inspired by abused religion and religion itself. The division is very obvious but if you read always the same pro-Muslim thoughts or against-Muslim thoughts, you will be lost in the translation of your own common sense into the  zone of free analysis I always say it is easier to be opinionated than to do work and conclude by yourself. If you do research and still keep the same opinion, then it is your right but not you simply being manipulated.

What is about Islam, Muslims and particularly about Qur’an that bothers us so much? One will say the hateful doctrine. Other will believe it is all about the terrorism which is feeding itself on religion. There will be people who do not accept any of those ideas because they are sure that all Muslims are simply terrorists and they do belong to some cult which wants our death. And so on, so on…the circle of hatred spreads faster than light. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what is Islam, who are Muslims or what is preaching the Qur’an when we know we must hate them because they hate us.

images (1).jpg

The Noble Qur’an is definitely one of the most controversial religious books because of the political misuse in last 20 years, not only by opponents but also by radical elements within islamic societies. The fanaticals imams who are mobilized for  greedy goals and by one powerful center are those who retell the meaning of this holy book to the people who are not knowledgeable. Now, imagine the poor and forgotten individual who finds his salvation in religion. He goes to the mosque and prays, hoping for the best, among many others. Although, the mosque sometimes  attracts the head hunters, the terrorism recruiters, that pick the weakest lamb or the most aggressive chacal, to train them for the final catastrophe. They are intelligent and they know how to deal with words so they shoot the targets where they are most vulnerable. They  promise them the respect they have never had, the love they have always missed and the award they have always desired. How they will them convince in all? Interpreting Qur’an for them because they cannot do that by themselves, they must be taught how to read and to comprehend. Peek a boo. We have our guy. Some Muhammed who will kill the kuffr (infidels)and  who will be the reason for the rest of the world to hate 1.6 billion Muslims. The story is deeper anyway. Our Mohammed belongs to Muslims but shouldn’t be taken as one who presents Islam because there is no religion which approves killing, only people who hide behind religion and the masq of God, when they play Devil’s game.

The Islamophobia is a scary part of our global reality. Everyone knows everything about Islam but has never heard about the small and slightly differences between The Holy Qur’an from Mecca and The Holy Qur’an written later  in Medina. The first one was about tolerance and peace  but  the second, due to the social and community struggles, has been more colored with violence and riots. That is why the dualism and the problem of abrogation in Noble Qur’an or what verse should be taken first and what second, especially when they both define the same issue. For me as a researcher, this is the burning question about the complete Qur’an therefore this problem causes many other problems and above all, it creates the evil seed of misinterpretation. I have one example. The good imam says to his people: Do your jihad, it is the most important thing you can do, fight your own sins.  The bad imam says to his people: Do your jihad, satisfy your God(which God?), kill your enemies(who are they?)and find your paradise. The first one is islamic theologian who knows that the jihad has many meanings but the most important is one we have against our own bad habits and soul’s temptations. The second one is manipulative speaker, skilled to interpret as it must be delivered to the final target. He offers taste of revenge, the ideal of sick heroism, the chance to be remembered by killing. His vision of jihad is one against enemies of islam.

download (2).jpg

Just a second, there are rules about starting jihad, against who and when:“During the lifetime of Muhammad, the Islamic community passed through three stages. In the beginning from 610 until 622, God commanded restraint. As the Muslims relocated to Medina (623-26), God permitted Muslims only to fight in a defensive war. However, in the last six years of Muhammad’s life (626-32), God permitted Muslims to fight an aggressive war first against polytheists and later against monotheists like the Jews of Khaybar.Once Muhammad was given permission to kill in the name of God, he instigated battle.” That is our confusion because we do not know what to follow but according to system of abrogation, the violent idea comes above all and it doesn’t surprise that the chapter 9,  “Ultimatum” in Noble Qur’an brings disputes among scholars, religious experts, journalists and ordinary people who try to put up with Islamic rules of dualism. This chapter does not start with so famous “In the name of God, most benevolent, ever-merciful”  and based on historical notes, The Prophet Muhammad (savs)has been given this  revelation in 631, the year before his death, when he got back to Mecca and was very empowered. The “Ultimatum” was the last chapter revealed to Prophet Muhammad(savs) and as the abrogation instructs, it trumps the revelations before:”Because this chapter contains violent passages, it abrogates previous peaceful content. Muhsin Khan, the translator of Sahih al-Bukhari, says God revealed ‘Ultimatum’ in order to discard restraint and to command Muslims to fight against all the pagans as well as against the People of the Book if they do not embrace Islam or until they pay religious taxes. So, at first aggressive fighting was forbidden; it later became permissible (2:190) and subsequently obligatory (9:5) This ‘verse of the sword’ abrogated, canceled, and replaced 124 verses that called for tolerance, compassion, and peace.”

hqdefault.jpg

That is now our problem, that is now Muslim’s problem, that is simply global problem. What is the truth? Where is the truth? The solution for this must come from the Muslim scholars because if they do not react and stand up against misunderstanding, the cancer will conquest the whole world and islamophobia will be the syndrome of the whole non-Muslim world. The Holy Qur’an is widely abused, by everyone everywhere for every possible reason. The Noble Qur’an is read by Muslims and interpreted by non-Muslims. It is experienced by Muslims and butchered by non-Muslims but all of them have rights on it as long as the religious experts of islam stay silent. I am aware that they do not want to speak out and to explain “The Ultimatum” to non-Muslims and to risk to change anything what can not be changed but they must explain the unveiled parts to their own people. Many Muslims do not know how to understand the mentioned and critical components of Noble Qur’an by themselves and those among them who are personally bitten by life will be  the easiest to be opinionated or radicalized by negative forces.

We are witnessing the rise of  islamophobia. I do not blame people that they are afraid of something they do not know about or they do not have right information about it. But, there is a cure for it. Pure knowledge, free from any ideological interest and religious benefits. The rough meat of facts, without being  censored, made up or shaped so it can be sold to the hungry mass. It is very dangerous to feed the crowd with the  bones when they know that you have meat.

The Islam and the Holy Qur’an is more than an debated ideology and politically misused religion. It is something which attributes the development of one significant category of our world, the Muslims. We can not accuse all Muslims for violence particularly because the violence is not reserved for any religion but for interest networks. We also can not accept the violence no matter if it comes from Islam, Christianity, Judaism or Buddhism. If it comes from religion, then we must search for a people who mobilize religion for their own agenda. They are always the same but the tools are different.

The Holy Qur’an is the book with so many faces, adored and cursed, loved and hated, interpreted and misinterpreted, praised and destroyed but the one thing is definitive, it is alive and it says: “Speak justice”~06:152

  1. Sarah, your knowledge about the germane subject is impressive! You take the reader through the various eras and how they shaped or influenced the way the religion is implemented today.

The next statement which I quoted from your article, herein, is a the rationale behind so many dilemmas and misinterpretations in general in today’s world, and in religion in particular:

“For me as a researcher, this is the burning question about the complete Qur’an therefore this problem causes many other problems and above all, it creates the evil seed of misinterpretation.”

In other words, it all depends on the interpretation! While this is not a surprise, it sure makes it very difficult for the laymen, i.e. non theologians, to interpret the original “intent” of certain passages. This is also true of the Torah/Old Testament as well as the Bible/New Testament. This is what gives birth to misunderstandings and, therefore, causes rifts between peoples, nations, and cultures!

In closing, I’m evoking one of Sarah’s statements in this article:

“The division is very obvious but if you read always the same pro-Muslim thoughts or against-Muslim thoughts, you will be lost in the translation of your own common sense into the zone of free analysis I always say it is easier to be opinionated than to do work and conclude by yourself. If you do research and still keep the same opinion, then it is your right but not you simply being manipulated.”

I totally concur with you, Sarah, as to the fact that knowledge is power! We should always strive to educate ourselves regarding the topic of interest in order to be able to make an intelligent decision and not to have to rely on other people to make that decision for us!

What an excellent article, but I have grown accustomed to reading the best from you.

  2. Any institutionalised religion (e.g. Judaism, Christianity and Islam) that implores followers to destroy fellow human beings has nothing to do with morality but everything to do with the primordial swamp.

Long before Islam came along, humans had been preoccupied with Commerce, via warfare. There was no difference between the ancient pagan hierarchies and their monotheistic successors. Control over human and natural resources was and is the principal preoccupation of the elite families of the world that promote their agendas through institutionalised religions. As Karl Marx stated ‘Religion is the opiate of the masses’.

What people need to do now is attempt to reverse the damage done by the successive US-governments since NATO went to war in the former Yugoslavia (arguably, the progenitor of the global war against Islam, or War on Terror). There are so many magnificent and astonishing cultural expressions in Islam (e.g. exquisite architectures, music, literature and so on). Yet, the mainstream media concentrates on Islamic-borne terrorism (much of which emerged via US-government agendas, 1990s onward [Osama Bin Laden’s sons went to high school in Lebanon, sponsored by the British government]).

Former US-President Obama was playing a two-sided approach: his administrations were fighting a war against militant extremism (which was/is sponsored by specific agendas in Occidental states), while trying to emphasize the positive attributes/aspects of Islam. A paradox, indeed!

The United States of America is a multicultural society, but a dysfunctional one; long before Muslims ever began to immigrate there, serious problems prevailed (e.g. Catholicism and Protestantism tensions, racial segregation and political divisions resulting in violence). In all probability, the majority of US-citizens favour inclusion, as opposed to exclusion. However, The War on Terror has unleashed so much unpredictability that the safety of civilians (which was the supposed original purpose of The War on Terror) has become impossible to guarantee in Occidental states; although, some of this is designed to sustain fear in civilian population, in order to continue support for further warfare (i.e. the very lucrative weapons manufacturing industry and its connection with the fossil fuel industry).

It is interesting that both Christians and Muslims are Fatalists: one would hope that all the many common parallels would bring them together, instead of tearing them to pieces… Sarah’s article alludes to such realities, also. Thank you Sarah for highlighting what needs to be exclaimed, openly and consistently!
