HOW AMERICAN SCENARIO OF TEENS “REVENGE” ARRIVED AMONG EUROPEAN YOUNG AND VIOLENT GENERATIONS
TEENS TRAPPED AMONG FAILED EXPECTATIONS, BULLYING AND COMFORTING IDEOLOGY
It was Friday in Munich, one of the busiest German cities. After long week, people were trying to relax and to meet with friends, ready to enjoy the coming wochenende. Everyone was excited and hot weather was inviting so many were walking around, drinking coffees or simply went shopping and get lost in lots of Munich shopping malls. However, the Olympia Einkaufszentrum shopping center will remind the bloody memory in German and world’s book of crimes, since there was one of the most disturbing teenage shooting in recent history on July, 23 2016.
Ali David Sonboly, 18, killed nine young people after the years of accumulated anger and hatred towards the certain group of youngsters who he targeted as bullies. On Friday late afternoon, nobody did know that German police is struggling to defeat the single gunman but everyone believed it is all about new terror attack. However, the media speculated that massacre on that day specifically must be related with 5 years anniversary of Anders Behring Breivik ‘s horror in Norway, when this far right terrorist and white supremacist extremist killed 77 people.
The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) states that the Fascist and nationalist ‘lone-wolf’ killers are more deadly than those with extreme Islamic ideas but the whole Europe is fighting with growing extremism from each corner and in many different dimensions, which are usually not linked. Ideologies are not the same but the innocent lives which have been lost for the sake of madness have the same value.
This teenage killer was known as a boy with serious mental disorder and problems to adjust to the demanding pulse of society. The complete story could be trailer for some American movie since Sonboly acted like the shooter from the movies, with very good self-made logistic and self-made preparation for final horror. Later it was discovered that the teenager had a lot of materials about Bavaria school shooting in 2009 as well as many documents regarding American teenage shootings and even book “Why Kids Kill: Inside The Minds of School Shooters.”. It seems that he was planing this tragedy for a long time but it must be based on the frustrations he picked from school bullying and lack of possibilities to find friends. What I find interesting is that Ali owned dual citizenship: German and Iranian but he obviously identified himself as “German” and targeted teenagers with no German names with his unlicensed Glock 9mm pistol, misusing the favorite tool of networking among young people: Facebook. His fake account lured them into McDonald’s and turned them into black, terrible crime statistics. But, something is definitely behind this red and dramatic Friday. The basic motive. The teenager was mentally unstable and anti-social lunatics. He was obsessed with computer games and growing nationalism. He was bullied in school and his frustrations were multiplied through the daily challenges from all over.
Whatever we are addressing here must be considered as hot topics in the following period of time because Germany and as well as the whole Europe is facing up with the army of aggressive and angry teenagers who are curing their problems with violent computer games instead of finding comfort in family support and social concern.
The “school” shootings are something typical for the USA. From Marinette in Wisconsin, via Omaha in Nebraska, Edinburgh in Texas, Chardon in Ohio to the Rosenburg in Oregon, the world is counting destroyed young lives. Unfortunately, the trend is finding its place in Europe too.The pressure is a big one. The young people are dealing with the growing expectations to make success and to be socially acceptable and sometimes if they are targeted as “weirdos” they are turned into real sociopaths who are ready to commit horrific deeds.
If we add to this the security risks and challenges in Europe and the complete change of demographic picture while the massive immigration from the Middle East is knocking on the European doors, it doesn’t surprise that teenagers are getting frustrated following the domestic feelings and even family feelings towards the outer vibrations.
The above mentioned book the Munich young shooter was reading, actually is a thoughtful book which research the phenomena of school shooters or lets call them teenage killers. The prominent psychologist Peter Langman offers a three-part typology: psychopathic, psychotic, or traumatized:”Drawing on 20 years of clinical experience, Langman offers surprising reasons for why some teens become violent. Langman divides shooters into three categories, and he discusses the role of personality, trauma, and psychosis among school shooters. From examining the material evidence of notorious school shooters at Columbine and Virginia Tech to addressing the mental states of the violent youths he treats, Langman shows how to identify early signs of homicide-prone youth and what preventive measures educators, parents and communities can take to protect themselves from the tragedy.” He has his own site for helping the society to develop methods for keeping children safe in these hard times:
https://schoolshooters.info/
The website is giving support to the efforts of American society to analyze these problems and to prevent the potential chaos but his observations could be applied all over with more or less changes based on the local level.
The psychological trigger is one but I would also monitor the ideological. As long as we are worried for radical islamist indoctrination, we should be also informed and concerned about far-right ideology and its own jaws. The dynamite of nationalism and patriotism in Europe is ready to blow up in any second because of the unsolved immigration pressure, especially on the certain countries like Germany is. It is to be expected that local children will find themselves stuck among failed multiculturalism and broken economical expectations so they will support radical far-right ideology which could bring them deep into violence. Sometimes, even without ideology as an inspirer, they could try to solve their problems in violent way and to remove threats to their own image. The parents are busy about daily battle for existence so they will not always note the warnings. The society must be included too in monitoring possible aggressive individuals or their atypical behavior.
During the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, it was famous massacre and bloody terrorist attack when Palestinian terrorist group Black September killed members of Israeli Olympic Team and one German police officer, moved by secular nationalism. This Friday July , in 2016 will also be remembered as the day when madness again visited beautiful Munich and took victims. Someone holds a grudge against this city but that must be the strongest reason for all of us to contribute and to cure our societies from accumulated violence among our youngsters or Munich shooting will be just the beginning.
I suppose the attacks in WÜRZBURG, GermanyWÜRZBURG, Germany are to do with right wing angry young men who have watched too many violent video games? Nice piece pity it misses the mark but then again suits the far lefts (not to mention the German governments) wishful thinking.
